What kind of land stewardship do you believe in?
If you own even the smallest plot of land
You own something awe-inspiring and magical
You can choose to heal our planet
You can grow food for your family
You can plant native plants
You can save birds, bees, and butterflies
There’s so much potential
Or
You hand your incredible resource over to
The leaf blower crews
Who also routinely spray herbicides and other pesticides
As regular “gardening practices”
Which further add to our environmental degradation
We’re all hoping you’ll make the right choice for the planet.

I'm an environmental advocate for sustainable yards working against the toxic golf course-style landscaping. It seems reasonable to expect that a gardener would know about native ecosystems and essential soil microbes, but not the case. Instead, we have guys with a lot of obnoxious and polluting engines visiting our neighborhoods daily. Apparently, loud engines and a backpack of RoundUp are what you need to "garden". In terms of herbicides and pesticides, landscapers and homeowners spray 30,000 tons (source: epa) of it every year on yards across America. All these needless pesticides end up in our waterways polluting drinking water and killing fish. We can all commit to a quiet, peaceful pesticide-free garden. Join your native plant society to learn about the plants we evolved with for millions of years. Planing native plants can actually save our birds and pollinators from extinction. Shrink the lawn!
